Safety Week 2025, why do we do this in July?

Renewing Our Commitment: Safety Week 2025 at Cole Roofing & Gordian Energy Systems

At Cole Roofing and Gordian Energy Systems, safety isn’t just a box we check, it’s a foundational part of who we are. That’s why every year, right in the heart of our busiest season, we hit pause, not on productivity, but to refocus, reenergize, and recommit to what matters most: sending every team member home safe.

Why July?

Back in 2016, our CEO Billy Cole challenged us to elevate our safety culture. While many companies host safety events in the off-season or early spring, Billy had a different idea: let’s do it when it really counts, during the peak of summer. So, each year following the 4th of July holiday, we dedicate a full week to prioritizing safety and recognizing the incredible efforts of our crews in the field.

Safety Week Traditions

Safety Week has become a meaningful tradition filled with training, recognition, and connection across our job sites. Here’s a look at how we celebrated in 2025:

Daily Foreman Huddles

Our days start early, REALLY early, with a 5:00 a.m. foreman huddle at our facilities. These gatherings are an opportunity to review safety topics, introduce new tools or technology, and set the tone for the day ahead.

Daily Toolbox Talks

While toolbox talks are part of our regular routine, Safety Week kicks it up a notch. Each day, our crews discuss a new safety topic during their morning pre-start huddles, reinforcing safe work practices and equipment awareness.

Stepped-Up Site Inspections

Our project management and operations teams take things a step further this week with increased safety inspections. Multiple documented walkthroughs happen throughout the day, morning, midday, and afternoon demonstrating our commitment to safe, proactive job sites.

 Safety Swag with Purpose

Each year, we gift our crews a safety-themed item that’s both practical and promotional. For 2025, we rolled out 32 oz stainless steel water bottles a nod to the new Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) heat stress standards and a strong reminder of the importance of hydration. Past years have included hard hats, safety glasses, hi-vis shirts, and insulated lunch bags. These useful items also help spread safety awareness beyond the job site to families, communities, and new team members.

 Lunch with Leadership

One of our favorite parts of Safety Week? Breaking bread together. Every crew receives a catered lunch, hand-delivered by members of our leadership, operations, HR, accounting, and estimating teams. It’s our way of saying thank you and creating a space for genuine conversation and connection. Subcontractors working on site join us, too.

More Than a Week, It’s a Culture
Safety Week may last five days, but its impact is felt year-round. It’s about building habits, strengthening our teams, and demonstrating through action, that safety is not optional. It’s essential.

We’re proud of our team for embracing Safety Week 2025 with the same grit, care, and collaboration they bring to the job site every day. Here’s to a safe and successful rest of the year & to many more Safety Weeks to come.
