Baltimore-March 2016

Firestone Building Products Company, LLC, a leading manufacturer and supplier of a comprehensive “Roots to Rooftops” prodfirestoneuct portfolio, presented Cole Roofing Company, Inc. with the 2016 Master Contractor Award, a distinguished commercial roofing quality honor. The local Baltimore firm is one of the exclusive companies to earn the distinction for roofing system excellence from within a network of more than 3,000 Firestone Building Products Red Shield™ Licensed Roofing Contractors. Cole Roofing Company, Inc. is one of a very exclusive group of firms to also receive the Firestone Building Products Inner Circle of Quality Award.

“Our annual Firestone Building Products Master Contractor Program recognizes top-tier firms for their commitment to excellence and superior workmanship,” said Tim Dunn, president of Firestone Building Products. “We are proud to honor the accomplishments of our 2016 Master Contractors, who are among our most valuable industry partners. It is our privilege to name Cole Roofing Company, Inc. as a winner of both the Master Contractor and Inner Circle of Quality awards, which serve as a testament to its industry-leading roofing installations.”

For the 29th consecutive year, the Master Contractor Program recognized Firestone Building Products licensed roofing firms throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Master Contractors are judged on the basis of total square footage installed and quality points accumulated for outstanding inspection ratings on installations covered by the Red Shield™ Warranty, including: RubberGard™ EPDM, UltraPly™ TPO, asphalt and metal roofing systems.

Master Contractors were also eligible to earn points in the sustainability category. Those qualifying Firestone Building Products installations included the SkyScape™ Vegetative Roof System and SunWave™ Daylighting System.

Furthermore, the Inner Circle of Quality Award acknowledged Master Contractors who installed a minimum of eight warranted Firestone Building Products roofing systems each in 2014 and 2015; and four roofs per year for each of the prior three years. They were also required to maintain at least 2 million square feet of Firestone Building Products roofs under warranty and achieve an annual Quality Incidence Rating (QIR) of 1.0 or less.

Solar

BALTIMORE – Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the One Baltimore for Jobs initiative launched the city’s first solar training program Monday.

The program is designed to teach people how to install and maintain solar energy systems.

There are also several certifications for trainees, who are required to have 320 hours of on-the-job training.

“He told me about certifications, skills that I would get. As the training went on, they didn’t just train us on solar, they also trained us on personal development and conducting ourselves in a professional, you know, way,” participant Michael Harris said.

This program came together after the U.S. Department of Labor provided the mayor’s office with a grant.
